Course Registration


Movement disorders have become a defined sub-specialty of neurology. Movement disorders include Parkinson’s disease and parkinsonian syndromes, essential tremor and other tremor disorders, restless legs syndrome, Tourette syndrome, chorea and tic disorders, dystonic disorders, Huntington’s disease and other hyperkinetic disorders.  The course consists of short lectures on various areas of movement disorders, use of videos to demonstrate different conditions and outcomes and questions and answer sessions with the participants to address questions, points of confusion, difficult cases they may be dealing with, etc. Attendees can also  bring video clips of difficult patients to get advice on diagnosis and treatment options from the  faculty during the case presentations section of the course.


Upon completion of this course the participant should be able to:
  1. Diagnose various parkinsonian syndromes.
  2. Evaluate pharmacological treatment options for Parkinson's disease.
  3. Identify the non-motor symptoms related to Parkinson's disease.
  4. Recognize and diagnose restless legs syndrome and evaluate treatment options.
  5. Differentiate various tremor disorders and select appropriate treatment options.
  6. Diagnose and treat hyperkinetic movement disorders such as Huntington's disease, chorea, tics and Tourette Syndrome.
  7. Evaluate the psychiatric aspects of movement disorders and review various treatment options.
  8. Discuss the diagnosis and treatment of dystonia.
  9. Recognize the differences between the various botulinum toxins and their appropriate use.
  10. Determine appropriate candidates for deep brain stimulation and review outcomes and potential adverse events.
